“Disassembling a myth—like destroying any refuge—is painful for everybody.”
—Toni Morrison

My husband's grandmother, Ann White, turned 100 years old on February 28, 2020. I asked her about her education, since I knew she had been an accelerated student when she was young. She said: "I went to college (Texas Tech) when I was 16. I graduated when I was 20. And I was married at 21." What I didn't know was that she is an active member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization, which helps fund higher learning for women, and was the first member of her family to have a personal gmail address. "My mother would have loved to see the new technology they have today," she told me. "She just loved new machines."
